Pünktlich zur Panik an den Aktienmärkten (der SMI fiel heute sagenhafte 5.26%) habe ich mir heute die letzte Episode von Adam Curtis‘ „The Power of Nightmares. The Rise of the Politics of Fear“ angeschaut. In dieser Doku bekommt „Angst“ eine grosse Rolle zugeschrieben – aber nicht an den Börsenmärkten, sondern im politischen Welttheater.
Am Ende der Episode bringt es der Direktor eines Forschungszentrum am Kings College, London auf den Punkt:
„In a society that believes in nothing, fear becomes the only agenda. Once the 20iest century was dominated between a conflict between a free market right and a socialist left. Even though both of those outlooks had their limitations and their problems, at least they believed in something. Where as what we are seeing now is a society that believes in nothing. And a society that believes in nothing is particularly frightened by people who believe in anything. And therefore we label those people as fundamentalists, or fanatics.“ –– Bill Durodie

SVP (und Kritiker werden auch die „Öko-Fundis“ dazu zählen) sind hierzulande die Parallelen zu den amerikanischen Neokonservativen, die ihre erfundenen Ängste solange wiederholen, bis sie selber daran glauben.
