Im Kopf eines Klimaskeptikers

Why can’t conservatives like Jenkins accept the massive evidence and remarkable scientific consensus that human emissions are now for the foreseeable future the driving force behind our changing planet […]?

The answer is found in those two key words „redistribute resources“ from Jenkins‘ penultimate sentence. Conservatives can’t abide the solution to global warming — strong government actions to promote clean energy solutions of the kind the Senate is considering and that have been proposed by Al Gore and Senators Obama and Clinton.

Because they can’t stand the solution, they are largely immune to scientific evidence about the problem.

Haben „Klimaskeptiker“, wie ich die Gruppe von Personen lapidar nennen will, also alle eines gemeinsam: Die Abneigung gegen tiefgreifende staatliche Massnahmen, um den CO2-Ausstoss in den nächsten Jahren drastisch zu senken? Stellen diese den Klimawandel nur deshalb in Frage, weil er nicht der effizienten Wirtschaft, sondern den Regierungen und Parlamenten aller Herren Länder die Hauptrolle zuschreibt?

Wahrscheinlich wird es unter den Skeptikern aber auch noch diejenigen geben, die grundsätzlich jede Aussage ablehnen, die von mehr als einem Wissenschaftler geäussert werden. Ein Konsens – das kann und darf nicht sein, ist nicht möglich, riecht nach Verschwörung. Aus dieser Warte müssten Skeptiker also auch physikalischen Masseinheiten wie die Lichtgeschwindigkeit oder die mittlere Erdbeschleunigung zum Teufel jagen:
