Peak Oil!

The latest statistical work by Dallas geologist Jeffrey Brown over at The Oil Drum.com, suggests that something else is happening, something that was not anticipated: an imminent oil export crisis. This Export Land Theory states that exporting nations will have far less oil available for export than was previously assumed under older models. The theory states that export rates will drop by a far greater percentage than net production decline rates in any given exporting country. For example, The UK’s portion of the North Sea oil fields may be showing a nine percent annual decline for the past couple of years. But it’s export capacity has declined 60 percent. Something similar is in store for Saudi Arabia, Russia, Mexico, Venezuela — in short, the whole cast of characters in the export world. They are all producing less and they are all using more of their own oil, and have less to send elsewhere.

  • … (to be continued)

Nachtrag

Die Mainstream-Medien springen auf den Peak Oil-is-here-Zug auf:

Oil output has stalled, and it’s not clear the capacity exists to raise production. […]

There are many things we in the U.S. can do (and should have been doing) other than the present policy of crossing our fingers. If an oil tax makes sense from a climate change perspective, it seems doubly worthy if it extends supplies.

Even if the peakists are wrong, we would still be better off taking these actions. And if they’re right, major efforts right now may be the only way to avert a new Dark Age in an overheated world.

„It reminds me of the way no one would listen for years to scientists warning about global warming,“ he says. „We were predicting things pretty much exactly as they have played out. Then as now we were wondering what it would take to get people to listen.“

However, scientists led by the London-based Oil Depletion Analysis Centre, say that global production of oil is set to peak in the next four years before entering a steepening decline which will have massive consequences for the world economy and the way that we live our lives.

Colin Campbell, the head of the depletion centre, said: „It’s quite a simple theory and one that any beer drinker understands. The glass starts full and ends empty and the faster you drink it the quicker it’s gone.“

I believe that Hubberts peak is true and that we are now past the point of peak oil. I believe many of the current events have to do with this understanding and it won’t be long before the main stream media and population wake up and understand what is going on. For me and my family, we are preparing for the life after the crash.
