Ditching!

Vor einigen Monaten haben wir noch gelacht, als uns ein befreundeter Flight Attendant unserer „nationalen“ Airline den Fachbegriff für eine Wasserlandung genannt hat:
DITCHING.
Wenn das so ungefährlich ist, will ich auch mal ditchen!
Nachtrag: Ist es nicht wunderbar, seine Nikon D90 mit 200mm-Zoom-Objektiv (im Büro? zu Hause?) zur Hand zu haben, um zufälligerweise einen ins Wasser gestürzten Flieger zu föttelen?

Irgendwie habe ich mit diesen beiden absolut kein Mitleid. Nokia hatte seine Glanzzeit zu Beginn des Mobilfunk-Booms, wurde dann aber schwerfällig und entwickelte am Markt vorbei. Microsoft wiederum zehrt immer noch von seinem Windows/Office-Imperium, hat aber die Erfolge dieser längst vergangenen Tage nie mehr wiederholen können – auch auf dem Mobilfunkmarkt nicht. Recht so.
Fakt bleibt: Apple hat die etablierten Hersteller mit seinem iPhone allesamt vorgeführt. Auch das: Recht so!

Wirklich nur ein Hirngespinst eines Russen, der sein Heimatland wieder als Grossmacht auf dem Parkett der Weltgeschchte sähe? Finde nur ich, dass die Wirtschaftskrise die USA stärker bedroht als Al-Qaida und Terroristen es je geschafft hätten?

Der Elektro-Volkswagen 2010 ist eine Illusion – wirklich?

wir dürfen dem Verbraucher nicht den Eindruck vermitteln, dass es 2010 ein Elektroauto gibt, das bezahlbar wäre und den heutigen Fahranforderungen entspricht

Zwei Seelen leben in meiner Brust: Ich bin – ebenso wie Bosch – skeptisch, dass die technologische Entwicklung innert ein, zwei Jahren den Elektro-Volkswagen bringt. Wider die Technikgläubigkeit, die den Homo Sapiens im 21. Jahrhundert von allen derzeit bekannten Problemen erlösen wird (und falls unerwarteterweise doch unzählige unintended consequences zu lösen wären)
Andererseits rebelliert die zweite Seele, die mit scharfer Zunge bemerkt: „Nun, Bosch, wenn ihr das nicht hinkriegt schafft es halt ein fähigerer Mitbewerber (bspw. ein Startup) – das ist Marktwirtschaft!“. Als Historiker erinnere ich mich bei „Das ist unmöglich!“-Aussagen an John F. Kennedy, der 1962 in einer euphorischen Rede behauptete:
„We choose to go to the moon. We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win, and the others, too.“

Individually, everyone needs to be compensated. But collectively, this directs the resources of the country. It distorts the talents of the country. The best and brightest minds go to lawyering, go to M.B.A.s. And that affects our country, too! Many of the brightest youngsters come to me and say, “Okay, I want to go to the U.S. and get into business school, or law school.” I say, “Why? Why not science and engineering?” They say, “Look at some of my primary-school classmates. Their IQ is half of mine, but they’re in finance and now they’re making all this money.” So you have all these clever people going into financial engineering, where they come up with all these complicated products to sell to people.

Kreditor China mit Ratschlag an die USA

People, especially Americans, started believing that they can live on other people’s money. And more and more so. First other people’s money in your own country. And then the savings rate comes down, and you start living on other people’s money from outside. At first it was the Japanese. Now the Chinese and the Middle Easterners.
We—the Chinese, the Middle Easterners, the Japanese—we can see this too. Okay, we’d love to support you guys—if it’s sustainable. But if it’s not, why should we be doing this? After we are gone, you cannot just go to the moon to get more money. So, forget it. Let’s change the way of living. [By which he meant: less debt, lower rewards for financial wizardry, more attention to the “real economy,” etc.]
